Excited for Alaska,... anyone?

So after much research and discussion, we've decided to go to Alaska for our big vacation this year! It will be our big trip before babies.

As many of you know, we are crazy adventure people when we vacation. So we've considered doing a 6 day, 5 night backpacking trip which includes, white water rafting, ice climbing, glacier trekking, sea kayaking, and of course camping outdoors in the wilderness of the Alaska mountains! AJ was so pumped that we'd have to be in top physical condition to do it to... do you want to know the one thing that deterred him?? That he wouldn't be able to shower except once in 6 days! HA! That's my super clean man!!

Eitherway, we found it's going to be more cost effective (to my suprise) to rent a car and drive it around to a bunch of different cities on the south east paninsula of the state while staying in bed and breakfasts and doing day long trips for the activities we want on different glaciers! We'll still get our class IV rapids and sea kayaking around glaciers in our trip, no doubt! We're still deciding whether to tack on a few days in Baff, Canada on our way home (the most beautiful place hidden between mountains and sitting on Lake Louise). As of now, we figured we can see Banff when we're older and we won't be able to go ice trekking, climbing, rafting, or doing crazy kayaking in open seas when we're older...

Here are some pictures to get you as excited as me!

Hello AJ & Christina - Sounds like a fabulous trip! I grew up out in the Wrangell St. Elias Nstional Park and can't recommend it highly enough. It's a great way to get off the beaten track a bit and see some spectacular scenery. My husband and I run a guide service out here where we take people hiking on the Root Glacier, rafting and on tours of the old mining town. We recommend driving out to McCarthy/Kennecott from Anchorage and then going down to Valdez for the best glacier sea kayaking in the state (also not quite so many people as the Kenai Penninsula) and then taking the state ferry (Alaska Marine Highway) over to the Kenai (Whittier) to finish up your trip. Let me know if you'd like more info, or just check out our website at www.steliasguides.com. Best of luck and have a fabulous time! ~Gaia

No way!! You guys are getting comments from travel agencies! Now I'm really impressed with your adventurous spirit. We once knew a couple that named their dog "Kenai". That's as close to Alaska as we've come. Maybe you could take woofie for us as a representative Wise.
